Would you like fries with that policy sir? Yes, fast food! What else would you compare the available streamlined distribution systems of insurance products found today? Watched a TV lately? Why buy your workers compensation insurance or other insurance from an agent when you can do it yourself on line? Well, I’ve got a few reasons…
The reference to fast food is that of standardization. Think about it. In the fast food environment everything is standardized. But workers compensation, while many may think so, is not!
Admittedly the lure of on-line shopping for workers compensation insurance is not unlike that of pulling up to a drive through and ordering your lunch. It’s quick, fast and you can drive away with what you ordered. It’s perceived as a simple transaction. It’s also perceived as a cheaper delivery system. Cheap for the insurance carrier selling the policy with some savings passed down the line to the purchaser. But is it really cheaper? Is the value really there?
As workers compensation consultants we work in the world of fixing workers compensation premium errors and mistakes for employers. And we certainly get our share of calls from employers, business owners and others who have purchased their coverage through one of these types of distribution systems only to find when they have a problem there’s no one there to help them! Surprise surprise!
I guess my real point here is that it’s important to work with knowledgeable insurance people when securing a workers compensation policy. Insurance agents play an important part in the process. Workers compensation premium issues can be confusing to many employers and those agents who know how to properly set up a policy for an employer, who can answer questions and who will be there to provide assistance and guidance when a problem comes up (and they do with some frequency) are that extra added value!
We have the pleasure of working with many independent insurance agents who bring their clients to our door step facing serious, costly workers compensation premium problems. Through our consulting service for insurance agents we help them work through the issues and provide solutions for their clients. It’s those agents who go above and beyond the call to provide a superior level of service to their workers comp clients.
Come to think about it, I can’t remember the last time we received a call from some unknown, on-line mega provider seeking help for one of their clients! Just something to think about.
Hope this helps you out! Thanks!
